About Us
Roger Wenzlick
I have been involved in engineering in one form or another since leaving school in 1985. Before then I was even working and learning in the engineering trades in my father’s workshop.I completed a Fitting & Turning apprenticeship, at Meremere Power Station, with advanced trade certificate and a 3rd placing in the national skills competition.
Engineering Machinery
By the time I left in 1991 I was the relief supervisor of the machine shop, in charge of 5 staff. Not bad for 21 years old. I then branched off into dive instruction for a few years, however spent winters in different engineering roles from refurbishing an old bulldozer to maintaining printing presses. One of my winter jobs saw me cutting aluminium plate for a large Auckland Yacht builder. This progressed to hull fabrication, davit and thruster fabrication, then onto complete engineering machinery installations.
After a number of years and 4 vessels all around 40 meters I changed tack and started out on my own as a self-employed marine engineer. During the next 4 years I built, repaired and maintained a range of vessels both small and large. I was based in Beaumont Street during the 2000 America’s Cup, so was largely involved in the maintenance of the fleet of super yachts that came down prior to and during the cup.
I also installed and maintained the fleet of travel lifts required for the America’s cup yachts. After the cup I headed overseas to join a large sailing yacht as engineer. I have continued to improve my marine qualifications and the vessels I worked on. I recently left a 6000 kW, 70 meter Motor Yacht where I was Chief Engineer.
Wide Variety of Engineering Projects
I have also spent time in NZ during that time on a few Engineering projects. This included another Yacht build and some very interesting stump grinders and chippers of very large proportions.
With a fitting and turning beginning and 20 years’ experience on a range of small and large machinery fabricated, installed and maintained, both in the marine and land bound fields we can help you out. If it’s broke, we can fix it.
Along with myself my lead engineer is Cody who has 6 years’ experience in structural house beams, portals and posts and onsite welding amongst other engineering skills. Cody’s an avid pig hunter in his spare time.
